the photographer.....
Tom's interest in photography began in high school. After four years in the military, he enrolled in a photojournalism class in a local junior college. It was here with his brother's medium format Yashica TLR that he had his first exposure to black and white film and the traditional darkroom. Later he enrolled as a still photography major at Montana State University where he worked with 35mm, medium and large format negatives in addition to taking classes in film, television, music, and art. Since then, Tom has actively pursued the art of photography. Henry Cartier-Bresson, Bernice
Abbott, Imogen Cunningham, and Robert Frank are some of his favorite photographers. Tom begin shooting with a SLR film camera and then editing through Photoshop. Later he moved on to a Nikon D300 and a Epson 3880 for the printing process. He cuts his matts and does his own framing. The enterpretation of the image he leaves to the viewer. Tom has displayed his work at the Idaho State Fair, Idaho State University Galleries (Transition, Mind's Eye, ISU Library, Davis), Marshall Public Library-Pocatello, Pocatello Art Center, Lamb's Restaurant (SLC) as well as some local coffee shops (Mocha Madness, 5th Street Coffee Shop, Main Street Cofffee Shop). Of course his family remains his most ardent critics. Many thanks to them for their direction and support that make it possible for him to pursue his "passion" all these years. Actually, it was his son's introduction to Weebly that inspired this website. So enjoy!
